Snippet #24 Festive Mode On

Well well, Diwali is fast approaching. With just a week left to witness my world gleaming in two hours of sparkling crackers and a night full of festive lamps, I cannot waste a holy minute in blaming the Supreme Court for its dopey judgement or question why they cannot spare such stringent verdicts on real estate reinforced deforestation and vehicle-induced pollution. Not to mention the low grade plastic packages that are flooding in the Indian market. Still, the Government is concerned only with the impact of crackers. I’m not a fan of crackers. But this sudden act of subjection is bothering me.

Politics and plastics aside. What happens in our household is worth mentioning. I’ve been planning to declutter the house for a long time. Usually, our annual clearance of old stuff happens a week before Pongal. This year with baby D around, I have scheduled it a bit early. There is quite a lot of undersized and overused clothes from his early days that need to be liberated from our room right away.

Each piece of cloth I had planned to dispose unfolded a story on its own. With all the memories brimming over, it is really hard to let go of these tiny outfits so I have packed them all tight inside a trolley and secured it in an unused shelf. Annual clearance – Check.

The pending tasks are however so much more. Our kitchen rack calls for a refill. Corner cobwebs demands a wipe out. Kuththuvizhakku looks fine but would be great if cleaned again to a shimmer. I haven’t bought rangoli powder yet. Psss! The adult version of being festive is fairly boring, I agree.

What is going on there? Tell me about it πŸ™‚

  1. Here the kids having Diwali party at school on Wednesday. The next 2 days holidays and Fri and Saturday holiday too as in Dubai schools are officially having holidays on Fri and Sat. So in all 4 days kids at home. Laze and binge on sweets! πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜

      1. Oh yes, they are excited for a fact that they need not wake up too early for school πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚. As for sweets, none of us really has sweet cravings but still will buy a small sweet box for the occasion πŸ™‚

    1. I never had plans to bake. Until now.
A cake should be fine. It’s not just the taste but its ambrosial aroma that makes me want to bake a cake. It instantly enlivens the household. Thank you for the idea boost.
